About Me
I was born in Subiaco and grew up in Glen Forrest in the Perth hills. I just loved being a fringe dweller. In the 1960s, the hills were the setting for my "boys' own adventures" with my brother and friends. We started roaming on foot, before graduating to bikes, old cars and motorbikes. I never enjoyed living on the "flat lands".
I have learnt so much during my life, and usually not in conventional settings. I disliked school, always preferring the lure of the bush. Following the successful conclusion of my Mechanical Fitting Apprenticeship, I have worked in Perth, the South West, the Goldfields and the Pilbara. I spent ten days on Christmas island and have been a regular visitor to South Australia, particularly the Whyalla area.
I produced my first piece, "The Mask" in the early 1980s. As an part time sculptor, I fell in love with the Western Australian outback, fossicking for historic metal artifacts in the middle of nowhere that called to me.
Following a somewhat unwilling retirement, creating my sculptures has really helped my mental and physical health. As an artist, I put both my body and soul into each artpiece. I dislike repetition; that would kill my creativity. I strive for that added dynamic and for that extra craftsmanship that captures the imagination. Whether I sell my sculptures or not, I will remain true to myself as an artist.
